Blockley Educational Trust Heritage Award 2014

The first award under a new scheme launched for Blockley students by Blockley Educational Trust in partnership with Blockley Heritage Society was presented to Chipping Campden School student Ed Sandars for a research project he conducted into the impact of World War I on the Blockley community.

The research won Ed an award of £250 that was presented to him at the conclusion of the highly successful premiere of William Wilkinson’s play “Have You Forgotten Yet?” produced by Blockley Amateur Dramatic Company (BAD Company) on Friday November 14th 2014 and Saturday November 15th 2014.

Ed travelled to Northern France and Flanders to see for himself 26 of the graves of the 52 Blockley soldiers who died in World War I. Some were in war cemeteries and some were simple graves in farmers’ fields: “At Le Touret I discovered the grave of my great great uncle buried there. It was quite an emotional experience.”

The PowerPoint presentation of Ed’s research, called “The Fallen of the Parish of Blockley”, may be viewed here and a copy is retained in the archives at the Blockley Heritage Centre. (please note this is a large file and may take several minutes to download)
